Hi, I'm Maya.
I write Quiet Signal from wherever I happen to be — usually a small kitchen table, occasionally a train. This is where I keep the ideas worth slowing down for.
I started this blog in 2022 after realizing most of what I was reading online was optimized for speed, not for staying with you. I wanted to write the opposite kind of thing — pieces that take a little longer to read and a little longer to forget.
What you'll find here
Mostly three threads: slow travel and the case for taking the long way, small mindfulness practices that don't require an app, and honest notes on making things — writing, mostly — without waiting around for motivation to show up first.
Off the page
Before this, I spent nearly a decade in editorial and product work, which is a nice way of saying I've written a lot of things I don't fully remember writing. Quiet Signal is what I write when nobody's asking me to.
Based
Currently nowhere in particular — usually somewhere with good light.
Writing since
2022, roughly one essay every two weeks.
Currently reading
Whatever a stranger recommended on a train.
